INACOMP BUG REPORT PRODUCT: INTEL NETPORT II DATE: 92/09/21 SUMMARY: The default settings for a Netport make it send out lots of network traffic. HARDWARE AFFECTED: Intel Netport II SOFTWARE AFFECTED: Netport software version 4.11 in this case SYMPTOMS: Played around with a Lanalyzer at a client site and discovered that the Netport, by default, is set to check for print jobs once every second (the default parameter is 10 tenths of a second). This sends out one send and one reply packet every second for every queue defined on a Netport. This was generating a signifigant (about 100 packets/second) amount of traffic on the client network. FIX: In NPADMIN, this parameter can be changed. I changed it to check every 15 seconds (150 tenths on the menu).
